人二自介｜人二譯社搞邊科：人二・二人・仁義

某年暑假到翻譯公司實習，希望能多揣摩各領域的優秀翻譯。實習過後，老闆問「係咪學到好多嘢呢？」，我卻只能禮貌地微笑。嗯，還是學到一點東西的。比如說，不要對翻譯公司發給譯者的薪酬有太大期望，也不要對如此環境下的翻譯質素有過多執著。身為翻譯系畢業生，在只要懂兩種語言就能應徵譯者的年代，如何秉持對語言的堅持，實在是種修煉。也因為這樣的經歷，我們萌生了創立翻譯社的念頭，希望翻譯新手獲得工作經驗之餘，也能獲得合理報酬，以及互相砥礪的機會。

「人二譯社」，當中「人二」合而為「介」。「介」，意即「兩者之間」，對應英文「InBetween」，又有「引介、中介」之意，指的是譯者不僅能流暢運用兩種語言，更能遊走於兩種語言之間，梳理當中沙石，打破文化隔閡，與作者二人共舞，成為原文作者與譯文讀者間的牽線人。說來浪漫，但實踐起來並非易事。如何掌握原文的語調、目的、風格，也是一門學問。而譯者本身也處於「in-between」的狀態，既要隱去自身風格，傳達作者訊息，也難免帶有主觀詮釋和判斷。如何平衡兩者，也是專業的體現。

啊，最重要的，還是心存「仁」、「義」，在紛亂的時代做好工作，尊重專業，同時莫忘以自己的力量幫助有需要的人。

Have you ever found translations unreadable or lousy in quality? Have you ever paid for translations to be done, only to regret your decision after receiving the final product? 

Well, there is a common root to these problems - translators are poorly paid and sometimes even lack proper training as almost all who are fluent in two languages or above can sign up to become a translator in today’s globalised world.

That is why we have founded InBetween, a translators’ homebase aiming to promote awareness on translators’ work and provide a training ground for aspiring translators without compromising their pay and effort.

“InBetween” refers to a state between the abyss of the unknown and the world of clarity. It is where translators transform alien concepts in the source language to resonating ideas in the target language. As invisible as translators may seem, we strive to deliver messages, intentions and styles across while holding tight to the values of professionalism.
