001

Back in 2008, about two days after the earthquake, the communication system was finally reconnected. I made a call to my fam who stayed in the village where I was born and raised. One of my uncles told me that he was in an open place and washing his hair, he wouldn't back to the house because of the fear of aftershocks. He said, trying to convince me how safe he was, two volunteers from HK were fixing something behind him. Those two men seemed from an NGO based in HK and they were working in the southwestern mainland, so they got to my hometown right after the earthquake. That year, the mainland received HK$13 billion raised in HK to get through it as a “one family”. "blood is thicker than water."

In 2015, My Little Airport performed New Brave HK at The HK Film Awards ceremony that year. The song ended with an inaccurate melody from God Save the Queen. The signal of the live show which was transmitted to the mainland was decisively cut. MLA’s inaccurate melody was treated as an unfaithful activity that disobeyed the policies here. In the year 2015, just about seven years after 2008, a lot of things had changed, the question of the colossal amounts of donations, the umbrella thing... Something that used to be solid turned to be fragile, a great gap between the propaganda and the reality about these two places had been showing right in my mind since then. I can comprehend that kind of disappointment, the future is a scary blur, a denied spot, “this city is not my place anymore, I am wandering here but as a tourist.”

The song has another edition, performed by Denise Ho. At the end of the song, the melody of God Save the Queen ends, and the national anthem here raises.
