The 6 Best Internet Radio Apps for Android

Your Android is the ideal device to listen to radio on-the-go . In this article, we list the 6 best internet radio apps. Keep in mind that listening to radio via your smartphone consumes data.

If you don't like downloading the app, you can click here to listen to internet radio: online radio luisteren

1. TuneIn Radio

TuneIn Radio is the most complete internet radio app on this list. With the app you can listen to more than 100,000 radio stations, easily searching for news, sports or music channels. It is also possible to check podcasts with TuneIn Radio and follow your favorite stations. There is also a social touch incorporated in the app, as you can share with others what you like to listen to.

By the way, TuneIn Radio is not only available for smartphones. The application supports Android Wear, to control the app from your wrist, and the Chromecast . Because of the latter you can also enjoy TuneIn Radio in your living room. The app offers a trial period of 7 days, after which you need to upgrade to TuneIn Premium.

2. Netherlands.FM

The Netherlands FM app is based on the website of the same name and is the best way to listen to Dutch radio stations. On the screen you see the logos of many different channels and when you tap on this, the app starts playing immediately. You can switch radio stations at any time and the app also shows three recommendations.

With the buttons at the top you can pause the music and adjust the volume. Nederland.FM does not support the Chromecast, but works on both Android smartphones and tablets.

3. XiiaLive

XiiaLive is less known among the general public, but certainly belongs on this list. The app contains more than 50,000 radio stations and is especially suitable for streaming specific songs. It is possible to search for a certain artist or song, after which XiiaLive checks whether it is played somewhere in the world. So see it as a kind of Spotify, where you are dependent on what is being broadcast at that time.

The presentation of XiiaLive is particularly beautiful. The different options are displayed as tiles, allowing you to quickly search for a song, turn on one of your favorite radio stations or search for a talk show. In addition, it is possible to use the app as an alarm and customize its appearance by installing one of the available themes.

4. Radio FM

Radio FM is a decent internet radio app without too much fuss. The 10,000 radio stations in the app are divided by country. This way you can search for a specific channel and add it to your favorites. The `Recent` screen shows the stations you have been listening to recently. Due to restrictions, it may happen that certain channels from countries are not available, but are shown.

The great thing is that you can use Radio FM completely free of charge, although advertisements regularly appear while you are listening. In addition, the interface looks a bit outdated and Radio FM does not give you a personal offer of stations based on your preferences. That is quite a loss.

5. Spotify

Spotify is not a real internet radio app, but it does have a feature that is completely focused on radio. When you tap the menu at the top left, the Radio function appears. This allows you to listen to artist radio, where you will find recommended stations at the top and all genre stations at the bottom. Those are interesting because they collect popular songs from a specific genre.

In addition, it is possible to follow and save radio stations. The stations will then appear in the 'Your Music' screen, where you will also find your saved playlists, albums, artists and songs. You can also give radio stations a thumbs up or down, so that the relevant station adapts to your taste.

6. Radio.net

Radio.net is also a lesser known internet radio app, but it does have a lot of cool features. In addition to 30,000 channels, Radio.net also offers a wide range of podcasts and you can search for radio stations in your area. As with XiiaLive, it is also possible to use the app as an alarm clock or sleep timer.

Radio.net recently got a new design that makes the app more user-friendly. The buttons at the top switch between the My Radio and Explore tabs. My Radio shows which stations, songs and podcasts you have recently listened to, while Explore offers tips from the Radio.net editors.
