〈港大发生了什么〉一文有感

In order to avoid censorship and express clearly, I have to use English. Please tolerate my broken English.

During the conversation with my friend about the topic this afternoon, I just feel absurd primarily because the writer purposefully opened an account focusing on this issue and wrote on a platform that most Hongkongers will not approach. Its audience is likely to be people on mainland, where information is seriously filtered.

The real reason of criticizing the president of HKU is that he did not even mention the brutality and abuse of police and the lack of accountability. Violence is somehow problematic, but the letter and the article refuse to talk about the root cause and the dispute concerning the extradition bill. And I don't know whether it just presents part of the entire story and conceals some other details.

More ironically, the author calls for free speech on a platform typically without free speech and transparency of information. In the meantime, in the article, it mentions 法制 rule by law which is a typical Chinese word. I just feel the writer does not truly understand the meaning of those precious values. To be honest, Chinese students studying overseas tend to neglect the most important social issue and concentrate on something less relevant, which seems cynical to me.

Maybe the violent and radical part is liable to attract attention and be utilized to make headlines, and other peaceful parts are simply ignored or just censored.
