But the United Arab Emirates city has much more to offer than just sunny weather and beaches. There are plenty of things to do in Dubai when it's cold, including enjoying the snow, wind, ice, and rain.

If you're looking for a winter getaway from the scorching summer, then Dubai should definitely be on your radar. 

From skiing and snowboarding to indoor skydiving and ice skating, there's something for everyone to enjoy. 

And if you're not a fan of the cold, don't worry - there are plenty of activities to enjoy in the comfort of indoors here!

What Is the Wind Like in Dubai?

Dubai is constantly hit by strong winds coming in from the Arabian Gulf, making it one of the windiest cities in the world. The average wind speed is 20-25 knots, with gusts reaching up to 45 knots. If you're looking for a place to experience some extreme wind, there are a few places you can go.

The first place is Palm Jumeirah, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Dubai. The Palm is a man-made island in the shape of a palm tree, and it's surrounded by a large body of water. The wind speeds here can reach up to 40 knots, making it an ideal spot for windsurfing and kitesurfing.

Another place you can go is the Burj Al Arab, one of the tallest hotels in the world. It's located on an artificial island off the coast of Dubai, and it's known for its luxurious accommodations and stunning architecture. The Burj Al Arab is also one of the windiest spots in Dubai, with winds reaching up to 50 knots.

  • The Rainforest Cafe at Dubai Zoo is a great place to experience rain. Its tropical setting and lush vegetation make it perfect for a rainy day.

Experience Winter Escapade in Dubai

There’s no reason to stop living it up in Dubai – especially when you can now experience the best of what Mother Nature has to offer without even having to leave the city.

From chasing snowflakes at Ski Dubai and zipping around in a buggy through the Hajar Mountains to feeling the rain on your face from inside a gigantic bubble, there are plenty of places where you can get your winter fix right here in Dubai.

Ski Dubai

The first place that comes to mind when we think of winter activities is, of course, snow. And there’s no better place to enjoy some frosty fun than at Ski Dubai, located inside the Mall of the Emirates. 

With five slopes of varying difficulties spread across 22,500 square meters, as well as runs for tobogganing and snowboarding, there’s something for everyone at this indoor ski resort. Not to mention the 17 ski lifts that will take you up to the top of the slopes in a jiffy!

If you’re not one for skiing or snowboarding, you can still enjoy the sub-zero temperatures by playing around in the Snow Park. 

With an area of 3,000 square meters, this park is complete with toboggan runs, giant snowball pits, an ice cave, and even an ice slide – perfect for some family-friendly fun.

IceLand Water Park

For a slightly warmer (but still chilly!) winter activity, head over to IceLand Water Park at Almaza Beach in Jumeirah 1. 

The park has five different temperature zones ranging from -6 degrees Celsius to +30 degrees Celsius – so whether you want to brave the cold or escape it altogether, you can find your perfect spot here. 

And with 25 slides (including four gravity slides), a kids’ pool, and activity areas, there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained.

Hajar Mountains Safari

Escape the hustle and bustle of city life and head out into nature with one of Adventure HQ’s buggy safaris through the Hajar Mountains. 

These rugged mountains stretch across 3 countries (Oman, UAE, and Yemen), making for some pretty spectacular scenery. The safaris take place in Hatta – about two hours outside Dubai – but trust us when we say it’s worth the drive! 

You can choose between a half-day or full-day tour (the latter of which includes lunch), both of which will see you zipping around in a buggy, taking in all that nature has to offer.
