Building a Decentralized Web Together: Matters Lab announces Strategic Partnership with Planetable.xyz

Matters Lab and Planetable.xyz are building curation protocols in the decentralized web together, empowering creators and communities with independence, agencies, and a better user experience.
Matters Lab announces strategic partnership with Planetable.xyz, together we are building a truly decentralized social to empower creators

Matters Lab is committed to building a truly decentralized social protocol for creators and is excited to announce that we continue our journey to achieve the goal with our new strategic partner— Planet. Soon, two teams will collaborate closely to integrate our services step-by-step.

Planet is an IPFS-based desktop application that enables peer-to-peer content distribution through IPNS and ENS, fully decentralized and server-independent. In June 2022, with Planet’s outstanding developer team and focused goal, they successfully released the first version. Planet leverages existing HTML, RSS, JSON feeds, and other common standards to make this path possible.

In Planet, each article is stored as an HTML folder on IPFS, allowing users to upload and download files in any format. These approaches are identical to Matters.News current storage scheme. In both Planet and Matters, each article is a separate front-end stored in IPFS.

Furthermore, Matters Lab has been exploring how to store users' personal home pages directly in IPFS as static web pages, enabling users to fully customize their own home pages and use them independently of Matters.News. Planet provides an excellent solution that allows users to publish their personal homepage under ENS and supports custom templates, which made it an excellent Web3 personal website publisher.

In the initial phase, once the author publishes through Matters.News, readers can subscribe to content in a completely decentralized manner via Planet, as well as through the IPFS public gateways using other readers, while Matters.News creators will have a simple personal page and content feed on IPNS that can be used with ENS.

In the second phase, readers will be able to read, like and comment on any work posted to IPFS on Matters, whether published via Planet or manually. Matters.News will be the community and amplifier that curates and discovers quality content.

As a final step, users could freely switch between Planet and Matters. This is true interoperability, a new dynamic that Web3 has promised but has not yet delivered.

This strategic partnership with Planet is only the beginning, Matters Lab will further develop our curation protocols in the decentralized web, empowering creators and communities with independence and agencies, and a better user experience.

About Matters Lab

Matters Lab was established in 2018, with the mission to create a freer and fairer creator ecosystem through the next evolution of the Internet, Web3. Our initiatives include using decentralization tools to protect digital rights, designing a self-governing system and community, and inventing models for a new creator economy. Matters.News is the first entry of Matters Lab. It is the largest open-source decentralized publishing platform in the Web3 world with more than 100,000 content creators.

About Planet

Planet is a free and open-source software for publishing and following web content, and it does not require a centralized server or service. It uses IPFS to achieve peer-to-peer content distribution. Furthermore, you can link your content to an Ethereum Name (.eth) so that others can follow you via Planet by the .eth name. Since both IPFS and ENS are decentralized, you can build your websites or follow others, all in a decentralized manner.
