- Despite slow individual neuron dynamics (determined by its time constant), a population of neurons spiking in an asynchronous manner can respond arbitrarily fast.
- For noisy injection current, as variance increases, neurons start to respond more linearly before the threshold is met.
- Excitatory and inhibitory inputs both decrease time constant. When exc. and inh. inputs combine into a low and irregular firing rate, low mean and high variance in membrane potential.
- Parkinson's disease comes from the degeneration of dopamine neurons in the substantia nigra, and it causes problems in initiating and scaling movements, which means motor functions rely on motivation rewards.
